OTHER NEWS |

|
On the day of the launch of the Dublin Bikes scheme, FUSIO launched an iPhone app that provided real-time information on the number of bikes available at each station and - using Google Maps integration - the location of the nearest station to the user.
The app proved a huge success with thousands of downloads in the first few days of release however JCDecaux, the operators of the system, did not seem to share in the joy and demanded that we remove the app under threat of legal action. We removed the app as requested however it was then that the fun started.
A few people made some posts on Twitter about the removal and these were picked up by hundreds of others including various journalists and city councillors. A number of articles were published about the issue and an emergency motion was put before the council demanding the reinstatement of the app.
We received more publicity for this than for any other product launch we’ve done and it was a great lesson in the power of social networking. Not only did we not spend any money publicising this, we never even issued a press release about it and yet, through Twitter, Facebook updates and blogs the story grew and grew.
